davis ranch

We went on a great field trip to Davis Ranch today.   We learned a bit about farming and agriculture and then took a tractor ride out to the fields to pick produce.

Our first stop was a corn field!  They picked the largest ones and packed many boxes.  It was a little messy and we ended up with lots of powdery stuff in our hair and itchy arms.  It was all worth it for a piece of yummy corn on the ride back.   We had never eaten corn raw like that so it was a real surprise when everyone loved it.

Calista is takes care of all the little ones.  They follow her around and she give their mommy's a little break.

Caroline and her friends filled this box of bell peppers and delivered it to the truck.

We returned to the farm with the boxes of produce.  From their the filled new boxes with produce from each of the different fields.  We got to take home 4 boxes (1 per child) and it was filled with cantelope,
bell peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, zuchinni and cucumbers.

A successful day!  190 boxes ( I think) was the final count.  These boxes of produce will be delivered to familiess in need at various food banks across the county.   We would like to return to Davis Ranch and one day and help pack boxes for families in need.

What a great opportunity! I will check to see if there's any place we can help out like that around here.

I'm glad to see some posts from you. I haven't been blogging regularly either.
