I for Insects in Kindergarten

The ants were the highlight of the insect week.  We also studied ladybugs, spiders, bees and other insects but focused mainly on the ants.  The ant hill was truly fascinating we couldn't stop watching them.  It was even mesmerizing sometimes.  This ant hill perfectly represented our words to remember for the insect lessons this week.  The ants work hard and work together.  God wants us to work hard too, and not be lazy.  They noticed that the ants never whined or complained either.  It was a cute observation!
Caroline doesn't do any of the phonics pages anymore since we're using Spell to Write and Read but the little girls like coloring the "i" words and cutting them into cards.
They painted some ladybug rocks (and the plates).
Trays are going well.  Claire is working on an inchworm while Caroline laces and Courtney screws the tops on a variety of jars.   I keep trying to spread them out a bit more but they always prefer working right next to one another.
Caroline is doing great with SRW.  I've seen so much progress in her reading, writing and her cursive.  She's so proud of herself at the end of each lesson.  We didn't start off this way so it's definitely been rewarding.  I do want to take the SWR training because I still have much more to learn to make our lessons run more smoothly.

Here are the insect theme books we read this week:
Are You A Ladybug by Judy Allen
It's a Good Thing There Are Insects by Allen Fowler
Bugs Are Insects by Anne F. Rockwell
Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg (a favorite)
Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni
The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle
Bugs, Bugs, Bugs by Bob Barner
The Bee Tree by Patricia Polacco
The Fascinating World of Ants by Angels Julivert
One Hundred Hungry Ants by Elinor Pinczes
