Elephants in MFW Kindergarten

The night before we start a new study the girls get so excited.  I don't reveal the topic and they enjoy guessing through the themes we haven't covered.  They know that when they come out of their rooms in the morning that all of the new books will be out on the window sill.  I usually find a related poem to hang on the easel too.  It's a fun way to begin a new study.

This week it was elephants.  We drew a big elephant on the chart paper and then Courtney volunteered to color him.  We used that chart to document our learning notes as we read throughout the week.

Caroline made a badge/necklace and I added her words to remember.  It's really cute to see her wear this necklace wherever we go.  When we went to the library I heard her tell the librarian all about the meaning of her necklace and her homeschooling.

We painted some Es for elephant while Courtney and Claire learned how to mix white and black to make gray paint.  Caroline chose to paint an elephant instead of the E.

Here is a glimpse at some of our trays this week.  We LOVE them!  I just need more time in the day to find more ideas and supplies.  I've been able to find a few good Montessori idea books in the library but making more time for my own reading is another story.

Since we also had Caroline's 6th birthday party this week, the elephants took a back seat to princesses and planning.  We didn't do as much with elephants as with some of the other topics but it was still a valuable study.
