MFW K - Us (the five senses)

We started this lesson right after Thanksgiving break and we had a bit of a rough start.  Daddy left on a business trip, everyone was tired from lack of sleep, and we were just out of our routine.  All normal stuff really, but I made the mistake of jumping in full force on Monday...not a good idea.  Needless to say, everything took longer and I didn't do as much as I could have with the 5 senses.   It was the first time we didn't make a lapbook and I have to keep reminding myself that it's okay not to make one every time.  Ugh...still working on this even though Caroline was just fine with it.

We read many books on the 5 senses and did a few activities.

She loved feeling inside the bag to guess the object.  It was much more difficult once she had the glove on which hindered her sense of touch.  She refilled it a few times herself later and did it with her sisters.  We did a few other activities like this to cover all of the five senses and are creating a little book out of it.  I'll post that after Christmas since I'm incorporating some of our Christmas activities in with the 5 senses too.

She made her badge all by herself this week.  She had a little gingerbread girl pattern and she was very pleased with it.

This was my favorite activity this week.  All four girls, actually, made one of these books.  Each page describes one of the gifts God gave them.  They dictated and some of their pages were just adorable.

I had to photograph Courtney and Claire's also because of what they wrote.

Courtney has been falling down a lot lately (the tope book) and Claire loves to sing the song she was referring to in her book.  I just wasn't expecting anything different than the examples I had given them so this really made me laugh.

We finished this unit just before the Christmas break (which we started earlier than I had planned).

Here are the books we enjoyed:
Here Are My Hands by Bill Martin Jr.
The Luckiest One of All by Bill Peet
Happy Birth Day by Robbie H. Harris
The Eye Book by Theo Le Sieg (a favorite for the twins) - need to purchase my own
The Listening Walk by Paul Showers
The Ear Book by Al Perkins
The Skeleton Inside You by P. Balestrino
Ears Are for Hearing by Paul Showers
Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes by Judy Hindley
God Bless Me by Helen Haidle

We will start this one this week... I am soooo behind. Yikes! ... but it pays to see what you and others do and get a "preview" of the week to come. ;)
