Our stay in Mexico exceeded the planned 2 weeks. It actually nearly doubled due to several fields trips, a family trip, a clothing sale and the disorganization that all of those things, and more, created in the house. I get a little uptight about following 'the plan' sometimes but with homeschooling comes more flexibility and I do want to take advantage of that without feeling behind. We started pretty early this year just so we could have some buffer weeks. I just keep forgetting about that when I go into panic mode. So back to Mexico.
Our routine is working out pretty well. I start with our Spell to Write and Read while the twins work on trays and then switch over. We're not using workboxes this year but I may use the strip and the tags with Caroline so she has a visual of her day. I find myself reminding her often to stay focused so I need to change that.
Our ecosystem was deserts this week. They did some notebooking pages and then the geography cards.
The Geography game was a hit. I didn't know quite as much as I thought I would. I needed this game as much as they did!
Oh! Our pinata! This took a few days of preparing but it was so much fun for them.
Courtney was the one to finally crush the pinata. She and Claire were actually afraid at first so it was great to see them come around. The candy most certainly seemed to help.
We ended our study of Mexico with dinner out at a Mexican restaurant with Grammy and Grandpa during our visit a few days later. Now we're on to Canada!

Having done ECC last year, I totally understand that you're feeling behind at times! I lived in panic mode through most of the year and it wasn't a pleasant place! We did not finish ECC because some lessons just required more time for us. The one thing that helped me feel like it would be ok was knowing that we would repeat ECC later on.
My advice to you is to take it at your own pace and ENJOY it. Don't rush through just to get it done to stay on "schedule." There's so much to learn in ECC. You will find that if you continue using MFW, next year will bring a much different pace; more relaxed, yet full learning!
The geography games were a huge hit here too. And like you, I learned as much as the kids! We also invested in some games that you might be interested in as well: 10 Days in... - they are geography games and I believe you can find them at Rainbow Resource, among other places. I bought a couple on e-bay. There is a post somewhere on my blog about these games with a picture, if you ever feel like searching for it! :)
Although I don't get to read the blogs every day, I just love reading yours when time allows. I have no doubt that you are a huge blessing to your family, especially since you are one to me! :)
