Adventures Week 24-25

I think the last time I posted about Adventures we were in week 11.  The weekly posts take some time but I think I'm just going to pick up where we are now and perhaps go back and fill in when I can.  Not sure when that will be though! :)

Bible has been focusing on Jesus as the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.  We had some reading and discussion around her memory verse (Revelation 17:14).  Her hands on activity was making a crown.  I thought at one point that the bible portion of MFW wasn't enough for Adventures so I added a workbook from another publisher.  We've since stopped that because she really didn't like it and it didn't fit in with what we were learning already.   I think that I could have just added to this when I felt it was light,  maybe built on what we were learning, instead of purchasing another Bible curriculum.   I guess I wouldn't have known if I hadn't tried though.

In science this week Calista was learning about atoms and molecules.  She made a model of a water molecule and later enough to fill a drinking glass.  Claire was very interested and Calista shared her science learning with her.

She saved the glass, labeled it with an H2O tag and then offered Daddy a glass of water at dinner.  She was pretty excited to do this!

We're working through the states and she is really enjoying that.  We use the state sheets that came with MFW but for the reading she uses another book we have called, Smart About The Fifty States by Jon Buller.  That has been much more interesting to read for her than the back of the state sheets.  We usually have from 1-3 picture books relating to each state so that has been fun.  I was afraid that going through the states would get tedious after a while but it hasn't.  I think that having the picture books has made it more interesting.

We're definitely picking up some speed now that our Friday co-op is over and since there are not as many hands-on activities at this point in the curriculum.  It's working out well this way since we have other subjects that she wants to learn more about too.  She's very interested in the California Gold Rush so we're going to spend more time with that.   She's working on a lapbook now so I'll post that when it's complete.
