Cow week in Kindergarten

We had a fun week with cows in kindergarten.  It was actually back in early March but I'm not on top of posting lately.  We learned some interesting facts and had many wonderful books to read.  The girls were fascinated to learn that a cow has four stomachs.  I didn't even know that!  We recorded the facts that stood out to us on the chart (above) and Caroline also kept a running list of milk products she discovered.  My favorite one is the 'Philadelphia' -- she copied that instead of 'cream cheese' off the box.  So cute :)
On one of the days we gathered some stuffed animals, a spoon and a dish.  I made a paper moon and a fiddle and we used these props to dramatize this nursery rhyme.  Courtney and Claire especially loved this and kept returning to this throughout the day.
This is Caroline's cow page for the Barn Book we're creating at the end of our Farm Animal study.  She paper pieced the cow together and chose two or three facts to list below.
Caroline has been wanting time with play-doh more often lately.  I keep forgetting about it so I'm glad she reminds me.
Best of all, Caroline and the twins love the trays we've added to our school day.  I think I'll be doing fewer workboxes and more trays with Caroline.

Here are the books we enjoyed this week:

Milk from Cow to Carton by Aliki
Cows in the Kitchen by June Crebbins
The Milk Makers by Gail Gibbons
What a Wonderful Day to be a Cow by Carolyn Lesser
Cows by Cynthia Rylant
Cows by Rachael Bell
The Cow Who Fell in the Canal by Phyllis Krasilovsky
The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf
Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin
The New Baby Calf  by Edith Newlin Chase
