Adventures weeks 10 and 11

In history Calsita has been learning about The Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, the Revolutionary War and President Washington.  It seems like a lot as I write it here but it's been fun and interesting for her.  We have so enjoyed the Liberty Kids videos .... a great supplement for what she is learning this year in Adventures.  Here are a few highlights from some of her recent lessons.

Calista made Hasty Pudding and it was NOT a hit with everyone.  It was a real let down for Claire's snack time treat.

I do love all of the cooking and baking that she is doing with Adventures.  This was a recipe for Johnny Cakes, which we thought everyone would like.  It didn't quite happen that way unfortunately.  I thought they were pretty good but we have some picky eaters around here.

There were a few experiments in science over the past two weeks as well.  I'm still thinking we need more in this subject but fortunately she had a great science class in our Co-op last semester which fit well with what were are already doing.

In this experiment she added food coloring to the water and observed how the sugar cubes soaked it up and then dissolved.

For Bible we have added Bob Jones, Bible Truths for 3rd grade.  A friend had lent me the books so we decided to use this for additional Bible time.  I'm happy with it so far and am actually going to start including Caroline in many of the readings and discussions as well.

For spelling we added Spell to Write and Read which I will devote another post to.  I had been wanting to purchase that for some time now and was finally able to do it after Christmas.  I am using it with both girls, just at different levels.

I'm not sure if I'm going to continue posting these recaps.  I thought I would do it for record and memory keeping purposes....perhaps like a yearbook?  but keeping up with the recaps is taking up too much time.  Time to rethink :)
