In bible we're learning the names of Jesus. It's amazing because the girls are in a play at church this semester and it's also about the names of Jesus. Super exciting for them! They made these neat Jesus window posters and they are now hanging in our living room windows.
Calista also made this candle to go along with her memory verse. Instead of gluing the label on the candle she stamped a border on tissue paper, wrote her words with a thin marker, and then we used wax paper and a heat gun to adhere it into the candle.
Then she painted some water-thinned glue on the candle.
I didn't have much salt left so we just used glitter instead.
I think it turned out beautifully. We enjoy it at dinner time now.
She was so happy to have read aloud time that was part of her curriculum. It always seems that the read alouds I do are more geared for the younger ones so this was a special time for us daily. She took the Squanto book really hard. Realizing that Squanto never saw his mommy and daddy again crushed her. When I finished the book I could see she was about to burst into tears, and she did. I was so thankful that I could be there to talk with her about it. It was a good book though and I'm glad we read it. We finished it in a few days so I added another read aloud, The Rough Faced Girl, which was good too.
Making a wigwam
She really got excited about making her Native American village. We found some additional information on the symbols on the tepees and she loved recreating some of what she learned.
A few of our other recent activities this week...
Making the WWJD necklaces
Putting the memory verse together. She strung it together and hung it on the wall. We later added a chart underneath where we're adding the ways in which we notice each other shining our light on others.
On Fridays we go to a homeschool co-op. In Calista's Science class they had them experiment with ants. She set out some plates with 4 different flavors (bitter, sweet, salty, vinegar) to see which would attract the ants. She noted the activity throughout the day and said they liked the vinegar best. I was surprised!
I am really happy with our curriculum choice. It is a great fit for our family and I love how excited they are for school. Adventures, in particular, has been such a blessing for Calista, my workbook loving child. She's having the opportunities now to explore and create much more that she did in the past. Her love of learning is back! Praise God :)

It looks like you are off to a really good start with Adventures! I like the way you did the memory verse. The candle & poster turned out great! We burned our candle almost every day, so it is long gone! Don't you just love all the fun projects with Adventures? If you stick with MFW next year, you'll find that the fun continues!
You're candle makes ours look a bit sad... well a lot sad... great job.... and you made me realize we forgot the salt!! When am I gonna have a brain, again?! ;) Thanks for the heads-up about Squanto. I have one that is sure to cry.
What a fun couple of weeks! I am excited to do Adventures with my oldest in a couple of years. Thanks for being real about your life too, I can never seem to stay on top of everything either and I only have one in kinder and one very busy two year old! I think you are doing a fantastic job. It is so neat to watch how other families do things with MFW, you are a great inspiration to those of us coming up behind you. :)
whenever i come across a fellow homeschooling momma i just have to stop and say hello =)
your girls are adorable!!!
love the ideas you have shared here
Love your Native American village! We have been enjoying Adventures as well, although we only made the wigwam last week. :) (I have an 8yo son.) My husband recently finished reading Naya Nuki as a read-aloud at night, and they both enjoyed it. Squanto was a good read as well.
We've been enjoying the Draw Write Now series of books, as they have a lot that really matches up with our studies.
God bless!
Elaine
