Dinner time is not one of my favorites times of the day. It doesn't matter what I make, someone doesn't like it. If it were up to the girls dinner would always be mac&cheese, bagels or Cheerios. I'd actually given up on making vegetable or even more than just two servings of a meal because they wouldn't eat it and I'd end up giving them a yogurt or fruit. Big mistake. So I was watching John and Kate Plus 8 and I noticed that all of their kids had balanced meals on their plates
and they were eating. There was some complaining but nothing like our crazy meal time.
So today I made chicken, vegetables and rice. I said that I had dessert for the girls who ate dinner. Caroline and Courtney still refused and ended up with no dinner but Calista and Claire cleared their plates. In fact, Claire asked for more pears (asparagus) and ice (rice). Why didn't I do this sooner?

What if they whine? Or take forever to eat? Do they still get dessert? Colton is a horrible dinner eater, always complaining or trying to make a "deal" (and he's good at it!). I've tried a timer, now he complains and deals and whines about not being able to get done in time!
I haven't figured a good solution yet!
The whining thing gets me too but we said if one negative comment or sound escapes their lips they leave the table for the rest of dinner time. Sounds mean huh? Also, dessert was only 3 M&Ms :) and they thought that was great. Wonder how long that will last. good luck with this never ending battle Kim.
